Retro co-op survival game
Exanimate is a paid 2D action fighting survival game developed by CodeCabanaGames. It blends side-scrolling platforming with relentless zombie hordes called Zeds as you and your team hop from one location to another, trying to survive as long as possible. Additionally, upgrades can be gained to acquire better weapons and infection resistance.
Exanimate’s frantic co-op survival is fast-paced, as even a few seconds of idling can lead your entire team to demise. The game employs a side-scrolling mechanic that makes it similar to past arcade games, especially with its stickman art style with exaggerated violence that’s made for a more mature audience.
Survive endless waves
In Exanimate, you and your team will need to battle up 20 zombie variations as you progress through the game. It features a 1 to 4-player local co-op mode, making it great for friends who are looking to play together. Gameplay-wise, it has a standard control scheme which makes it easy to maneuver. Story-wise, your group has to escape the chaos of the city caused by vicious zombies or Zeds.
After every level, checkpoints are there including a fully stocked shop for in-game upgrades for better weapons, and infection resistance. Aesthetic-wise, its retro-style art and soundtrack complement the action. With every level, the map changes subtly, as you progress by surviving longer waves and achieving higher scores. Keep in mind that you can also download the soundtrack separately as downloadable content if you want to.
There are some minor issues with this game. First, the repetitive nature of endless waves may not appeal to all players. Second, players might find the challenge of surviving long waves demanding. Lastly, the simplistic art style and cartoon violence might not appeal to some people. Nonetheless, the game's co-op gameplay, low system requirements, and retro aesthetic offer an engaging experience.
A survival game with retro charm
Exanimate offers a challenging co-op survival experience, blending frantic action with strategic upgrades and retro visuals. The game's co-op teamwork and in-game upgrades are also an advantage. However, the repetitive nature and demanding challenge may not suit all players. Thankfully, its co-op gameplay and retro aesthetic offer an engaging experience.
